Electric & Hybrid Options Explained

All Electric

All-electric vehicles run on battery power alone. Zero fuel. Zero emissions on the road. So, they’re better for the environment and, with government purchase incentives, reduced road tax and no penalties in some low emission zones, they’re good for your wallet too. No more trips to the pump. Fewer moving parts than traditional vehicles, meaning lower maintenance costs. Tax reductions, emission zone benefits, the list of savings goes on.

Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV)

Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles (PHEV) have all the functionality of full Hybrid technology, with the added advantage that they can be charged from an external electricity supply. The larger capacity of the battery makes them capable of zero-emissions while driving for ranges of up to 30 miles (50 kilometres), with the ability to switch to Hybrid mode to conserve battery life and to petrol or diesel-only for longer journeys.

Hybrid (HEV)

As with Mild Hybrid (MHEV), these vehicles have an internal combustion engine, but they also have a larger battery and more powerful motor. This provides more assistance to the engine and enables the vehicle to drive parts of short journeys at low speeds using the electric motor alone. Thanks to the conventional engine, this can help improve driving range. This is because the vehicle is capable of using both battery and the internal combustion engine.

Mild Hybrid (MHEV)

The internal combustion engine is assisted by an electric motor. At low speed, or when stationary, the engine can switch itself off and the 48V starter-generator seamlessly restarts when needed. The separate 48V Li-ion battery is automatically recharged by regenerative braking during coasting and braking. There is no requirement to connect the battery to a power source.

Charging Options

HOME CHARGING

Simply connect your vehicle to a standard domestic socket and leave it to charge. This isn’t the fastest way to charge the battery because of the limited power availability from household sockets. However, it doesn’t require the need for additional hardware and therefore represents a cost-effective and highly accessible method of recharging your plug-in vehicle.

Want to make charging your all-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle at home as fast as possible? With the help of one of our expert partners, we can help you arrange the installation of a higher power wallbox at home. Ford’s Wallboxes offer faster charging times versus charging via conventional plug sockets, getting your all-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle back on the road as soon as you need it.

PUBLIC AND DESTINATION CHARGING

Across the range of our all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle portfolio, we will provide public charging cables either as standard or as an accessory depending on the model that’s right for you. This gives you the power to charge your Ford vehicle at any of the 100,000+ (and growing!) charge points across Europe – so you can be sure we’ve got you covered.

Ford is also one of the founders of one of Europe’s fastest growing Charging networks: IONITY. IONITY will offer All-Electric Ford drivers market leading Charging speeds at a discounted price.

CHARGING MADE EASY

With the FordPass App on your phone, you’ll never have to worry about whether your electric vehicle is charged or not. Simply open the FordPass app to check the state of your electric battery and whether it needs Charging before your next journey.

We’re also working in partnership with NewMotion, who are building Europe’s largest public Charging network. This partnership allows you, through your smartphone, to find out where the nearest public Charging points are, how to get there and how much it will cost to fully charge your Plug-in Hybrid or electric car or van. On your All-Electric Ford vehicle you can also find out which public charge points fall on your scheduled journey – meaning you can charge your electric vehicle on-the-go without compromising your current route.

Our Electric & Hybrid Vehicles

FORD TOURNEO CUSTOM

MHEV & PHEV

The Ford Tourneo Custom Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) is purpose-built to help transport passengers more efficiently than ever. Smart, hybrid technology helps keep emissions at a minimum, whilst intelligent design creates a refined and sophisticated interior for everyone to enjoy.

FORD TRANSIT CUSTOM

MHEV & PHEV

Fully charged, the  Transit Custom Plug-In Hybrid’s can take you more than 35 miles (56 kilometres) using the electric motor alone. Ideal on those short trips in the city that usually result in low efficiency and more money spent on fuel. On longer journeys, the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine helps to extend the van’s range to over 310 miles (500 kilometres) – working with regenerative braking to recharge the battery. And once sufficiently charged, you can switch back to electric only, helping you save money and reduce pollution.

FORD TRANSIT

MHEV

To help maximise efficiency, the Transit is now available as a Ecoblue Hybrid. A small battery-driven electric motor works with the conventional engine to help reduce fuel consumption when demand for power is low.

FORD E-TRANSIT

All-Electric

All–electric. Zero compromise. The New Ford E-Transit is our first all-electric van. The electric Ford Transit has been purpose-built to help your business meet its sustainability targets, without compromising on toughness, capability, or versatility.
